My Story

First and foremost, I want to say that I am humbled by the trust animal parents place in me to care for these wonderful beings that enrich our lives so much. It is truly a privilege.

My journey in veterinary care started more than 35 years ago, when I graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. After working in Massachusetts for almost six years, I moved with my family to Maine, where my wife and I opened Bethel Animal Hospital in February of 1994. Initially, the practice was in a portion of our farmhouse, but it quickly outgrew that space, and in 2000, we moved into the hospital’s current facility and hired our first veterinary associate. The hospital has continued to grow and provide care for an ever-expanding family of animal patients and their humans.

In addition to my full-time role in Bethel, I had an opportunity in 2010 to become an Integrative Medicine Specialist with Dr. Gail Mason at Portland Veterinary Specialists. For the next nine years, I worked alongside Western-trained surgical and medical teams to incorporate holistic care into their practice.

It was there that my passion for holistic medicine grew, and my belief strengthened that holistic care including acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutritional support is a vital part of animal health and wellbeing. After Bethel Animal Hospital was sold in 2019, it became clear to me (and my wife) that I was not ready to retire. My passion for animal care is as strong as ever, and my dream was to create a healing space where animals and their people can go to experience healing on all levels. That dream became a reality in May of 2023, when Animal Acupuncture of Maine was founded.
